Before coming to the Netherlands Italian student Chiara Graziani thought the Red Light Area would be an ‘area of total perdition’. When she came to Amsterdam as an Erasmus student in August 2016 to study history and tourism, she decided to do research on the area from the point of view of the tourists, in connection with the Framing Prostitution project.
Chiara and I did fieldwork in the Red Light Secrets Museum and I presented the results at the conference Locating Imagination in Rotterdam. Chiara continued her research looking at various tours through the Red Light Area and analyzing the reactions of tourists from various countries.
