My job as a curator of the Amsterdam Museum brought me to palaces and brothels.
Since 1995 I curated exhibitions on a great variety of subjects, with a variety of objects, often a mix of ‘high’ and ‘low’ culture and with a strong input of human stories.

For the Dutch Anti Apartheid Movement and the African National Congress I organized a women’s conference.
I have been involved in several participatory projects, co-creating exhibitions and websites with various groups among the population of Amsterdam. I took part in international projects such as the European Community-founded project on entrepreneurs and migration (2009-2012). Occasionally I teach at Reinwardt academy, the Public History department (University of Amsterdam), History department (Free University) and have given lectures and workshops in the Netherlands and abroad. I was chair of the historical section of the Dutch Museum Association for several years and member of the board of the Resistance Museum Amsterdam.
Since 2013 I was involved in the project Mapping Slavery. I coordinated the twinning project between the Amsterdam Museum and Openair Museum Fort New Amsterdam in Surinam.
In 2019 I joined the Stadscuratorium that advises the City of Amsterdam on Art in Public Space. In 2021 I became a member of the commitee that advises on the names of street and other public spaces in Amsterdam.
After my retirement as a curator of the Amsterdam Museum I continued as a board member (vice chair) of CAMOC, the citymuseum committee of the International Council of Museums. In October 2024 the Amsterdam Museum will (co)host the joint Conference of CAMOC and COMCOL.
