Some figures were painted several times at Vanmour’s studio and in some paintings only a few minor details were changed to create a new portrait. Vanmour’s drawings and prints probably served as examples. This painting is almost identical to painting no. 29, the man from the Albanian coast, the only difference being the dagger tucked under the soldier’s belt.
