When you put the headphones on in the exhibition, you can imagine yourself back in the chapel as it once was: the Sacred Hearth chapel, with its church-like acoustic, its choral singing. The narrator speaks directly to you and you hear everything: he walks over to you, sits beside you, walks around... you hear it all in genuine 3D, from all sides.

The recording and direction are by Big Orange. The voice that tells the story is that of Gijs Scholten van Asschat, an actor who has been involved with other aspects of the project too. Such a wonderful voice. A good thing he doesn’t do commercials, because I’d buy anything he recommended without a second thought!

Big Orange decided to do the recordings in an old school building, which had the perfect church-like echo. A grey head like that of a shop-window mannequin was placed in the middle of the corridor, with a microphone. In fact the head was the microphone. Scholten van Asschat walked over to it and around, telling the story. Occasionally he even whispered into its grey ear. When you put the headphones on, it’ll be your ear...
