For example, his son Dirck Jacobsz was Amsterdam’s first portrait painter. Grandson Cornelis Anthonisz became a successful print-maker. His Bird’s-Eye View is the oldest known map of Amsterdam. Cornelis Buys I, Jacob’s brother, and his son Cornelis Buys II, were also sought-after artists. They used the same monogram as Jacob, with their own initials.
Family Man
Jacob and his wife Anna had four children. Talent and a passion for the arts ran in the family. Jacob’s children appear to have worked in his workshop; certainly his grandson did. And each had their own mark. Jacob trained them all to be competent assistants. And with great success! Some became respected artists in their own right.
