An exceptional composition
These are the six regenten, trustees, responsible for the ambitious rebuilding of the orphanage in 1633-1634. The gentlemen are divided into two groups, one standing and one sitting. The master in the middle respectfully doffs his hat to them and leads the girl forwards. He serves to link the two groups in the composition. This painting was commissioned at the same time as the portrait of the trustees by Jacob Backer, also in this hall.
